Tom Nelson is the Director of Student Media at Loyola Marymount University, where he has served as advisor to the Los Angeles Loyolan news source, ROAR Studios television and The Tower yearbook since 2003. He believes that the essence of good journalism consists of three simple things: accuracy, relevancy and responsibility. However, he also understands the practical challenges inherent in attaining those objectives from his more than 15 years working as a professional journalist. As an educator, Tom strives to create an environment that promotes student leadership, embraces risk taking and FAILs (First Attempts in Learning), and encourages high standards that lead to sustained excellence.
