RIP fossil fuels?
No one disputes that oil and gas production is harmful to human health and the climate itself, but the road to ending our dependency on these energy sources is long and winding.

While battery-powered vehicles have long been championed as a key to reducing emissions and reducing the impact of climate change, they are not quite as climate friendly as many believe.
The first week of COP26 was packed with action. From new agreements to failings of old ones the first week of COP26 leaves us with a lot to discuss.
By Sydney McGovern BATON ROUGE, LA – The holy grail of stopping climate change is to reduce carbon emissions across all sources to zero. One solution that holds promise is to capture carbon dioxide – the lead cause of global warming – before it’s emitted from refineries and other industrial
By Spencer Hayes Clean energy, otherwise known as renewable energy, is energy that is taken from resources that are naturally replenished by the Earth. President Joe Biden’s goal for the United States is to use clean energy to get to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This would mean
What has been dubbed by Vox and other news as “the worst energy bill of the 21st century” has put Ohio behind in the transition to renewable energy.
Ohio House Bill 6 is energy legislation that provided bailouts in the form of subsidies to two nuclear power plants and two coal power plants. The bill also reformed energy efficiency standards in the state.
By Sydney McGovern, Samantha Beekman, Josh Archote Traditional energy generation is declining, and renewable energy is on the rise. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts that wind turbine service technicians and solar panel installers will be two of the fastest growing jobs in the United States through 2029. The
By Veronica Backer-Peral Demanding that the state of California close the Playa Vista natural gas facility less than two miles from the Loyola Marymount University campus is just the start. The more challenging step is determining what comes next. Natural gas was the most used energy source across California in 2018, amounting
A group of Los Angeles activists are demanding that SoCalGas shut down its natural gas storage facility in Playa Del Rey. They worry about a potential blowout that could harm hundreds in the nearby community. Here’s five quick things to know.
Just outside the front gate to LMU, the Ballona Wetlands are the site of more than just flora and fauna. A SoCal gas reserve on the wetlands is drawing concern from activists and L.A. politicians alike. Watch to learn more about natural gas and the battle at Ballona.
“It may be challenging to the Louisiana situation because of its reliance on the oil and gas industry, but the prospect of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 is certainly possible,” LSU chemical engineering professor Kalliat Valsaraj said.
“The material science is so complicated,” he said. “We cannot write an equation to model it. The proposal is if we can build this powerful quantum device and then understand how light is collected and transported, then we will know some possible paths to improve.”
Local economic and environmental experts say it’s time for Louisiana to join the global shift to renewable energy, both to ease coastal erosion and to offset the economic and job losses that now seem inevitable. The state ranks 38th in the country in renewable energy production, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Experts warn that if Louisiana continues to move more slowly than other states, it could lose business and jobs to the others.
Some topics should be political, but when it comes to climate change and rising global temperatures, it’s remarkable how even basic facts and science continue to be disputed. Renowned environmentalist Bill McKibben speaks to reporter Veronica BP on the topic of when and how climate change became so politicized.
