E. R. SHIPP, an associate professor in the School of Global Journalism and Communication at Morgan State University, began her journalism career at The New York Times following graduation from Columbia University. She has three degrees from Columbia: master’s in journalism, master’s in history and J.D. in law. She has been a reporter and editor at the New York Times, a columnist at the New York Daily News and the Baltimore Sun, an ombudsman for the Washington Post and a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in a variety of spaces. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1996. Shipp is a native of Conyers, GA, who considers Harlem in New York to be her home though she lives in Baltimore.
